If you’re reading this you’re probably wondering why a nature/animal photographer has so many photos of planes. Although I usually spend many hours hidden in a hide hoping to catch the perfect show of a Nuthatch or a Grey Heron, I have to admit that I’m also massive fan of planes!
For the past three years I’ve had the privilege of volunteering with the Maritime Volunteer Service (MVS) Swansea. During the air show the MVS are responsible for patrolling Swansea Bay and making sure all boats within the bay are a safe distance away from the flight path buoys. As a team member I faced a new challenge this summer whilst attempting to photograph the show … photographing high speed planes whilst on a high speed RIB (power boat) is rather tricky!
The Wales National Air Show for the past two years has taken place over Swansea Bay and for the foreseeable future the air show will be on every summer in Swansea bay, instead of every other year. There’s something quite spectacular about this show and if you haven’t been before I’d highly recommend it.
I’ve included my favourite collection of photos from the day which are all available to buy as prints or blank A6 greetings cards.
Hope you enjoy and please feel free to comment or leave feedback!
